The MET Costume Gala 2009 Fashion

As a fashion spectator, I love the MET Costume Gala.  The fashion is always out there.  And when you take a fashion risk, it either pays off handsomely or you land on the worst dressed list section in all the magazines and blogs.

So let’s see who made my list of the good, the bad, and the so so, shall we?

The Good

Chanel Imandiane kruger

  • Chanel Iman in Zac Posen.  The model looked young and sexy in the leopard print gown.
  • Diane Kruger in Chanel Couture.  Love the white mini with floral appliqués.  It’s so sweet and fresh.

imanclaudia schiffer

  • Iman in Donna Karan.  The asymmetrical champagne was simply gorgeous.  Iman certainly put the youngins to shame.
  • Claudia Schiffer in Atelier Versace.  The dress was spectacular – a total work of art.  I love the cutouts.  It’s just so cool.

kate beckinsalegeorgina chapman

  • Kate Beckinsale in Marchesa.  I wasn’t surprised Kate showed up in this dress.  For most of the award show season, she’s been wearing this dramatic silhouette.  It’s a great dress to wear to the gala!
  • Georgina Chapman in Marchesa, who is one half of the Marchesa design duo also looked great in the line’s scarlet duchess satin embroidered dress with a bow detail.

renee zellwegerliv tylergiselle bundchen

  • Renee Zellweger in Carolina Herrera.  It wasn’t much of a surprise that Renee went with a strapless Carolina Herrera dress, but I must say that I love the color and the bodice.  I wish I had that dress.
  • Liv Tyler in Stella McCartney.  Liv looked lovely in the deep v and high slit beaded navy dress.  The look was classic.
  • Giselle Bundchen in Versace.  The Brazilian supermodel was sexy in blue sequin mini.

marion cotillardlake bell

  • Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior.  The Oscar winning, French actress looked spectacular in a blushing pink  strapless gown
  • Lake Bell worked the androgynous look beautifully.

The Bad

leighton meesterblake-livelymadonna

  • Leighton Meester in Versace.  Leighton took a big risk here, and sadly it didn’t pay off.  The dress actually works, but what kills it, is the leggings.
  • Blake Lively in Versace.  I like the color, but hate, hate, hate the dress.
  • Madonna in Versace.  I have no idea what Madonna, the designer, or stylist was thinking when they put her in this get up.  And what’s with the bunny ears?

anne hathawayrihannarosario dawson

  • Anne Hathaway in Marc Jacobs.  Now I like the color.  But the shape of the dress doesn’t do anything for her.  And hate, hate, hate the big hair.  The makeup was good though.
  • Rihanna in Dolce & Gabbana.  Riri attempted the androgynous menswear look, but it didn’t turn out so good.  She should look at Lake Bell to see how’s it done.
  • Rosario Dawson in Diane von Furstenberg.  This dress does absolutely nothing for her body.  It takes away all the curves and makes her look stick straight.

rachel weiszdonatella allegra versacetyra banks

  • Rachel Weisz in Vera Wang.  The dress made her look bulky.  But that wasn’t the worst part.  The dark lipstick just didn’t work.  I wonder if she got in a fight with her makeup artist.
  • Donatella Versace in Versace.  With the teal dress and the platinum blonde hair, Donatella looked like a mermaid, and not in a good way.
  • Tyra Banks in Badgley Mischka.  The dress wasn’t bad – well, it wasn’t good, but it wasn’t horribly bad.  However, the hair didn’t work at all.

molly simsmary-kate olsenkirsten dunst

  • Molly Sims in Dolce & Gabbana.
  • Mary-Kate Olsen in Christian Lacroix.  The teeny tiny twin mogul looked like she should be on set for a vampire movie, not on the red carpet.
  • Kristin Dunst in Chanel.

helena christensen

  • Helena Christensen in Zac Posen.

The So So

anna wintourbrooke-shields

  • Anna Wintour in Chanel Couture.
  • Brooke Shields in Calvin Klein.

ashley olsencindy crawfordclaire danes

  • Ashley Olsen in The Row.  The white gown with a cowl back, was oversized, as per Olsen style, but it worked.
  • Cindy Crawford in Versace.
  • Claire Danes in Armani Prive.  The dress is nice and all, but I find it a little boring.

rachel bilsonheidi klum

  • Rachel Bilson in Bally by Brian Atwood.  Now I love, love, love, the dress and the color is to die for.  But I wish she did something else with her hair and picked a different pair of shoes.
  • Heidi Klum in J. Mendel.

anna jagodzinskahilary swankjessica alba

  • Anna Jagodzinska in Altuzarra.  The dress was fine, but the shoes did not go with it.
  • Hilary Swank
  • Jessica Alba in Jason Wu.  The dress is cute, but the hair was atrocious.  The tights didn’t do the dress any favors either.

kate hudsonkate mosseva mendes

  • Kate Hudson in Stella McCartney.  Love the back of the dress, but I wasn’t fan of the front.
  • Kate Moss in in Marc Jacobs.  Only Kate Moss could rock an asymmetrical gold lame dress and a turban on the red carpet.
  • Eva Mendes in Calvin Klein.  Eva glowed in the shimmering gold dress, which complemented her tan skin perfectly.  The dress was a little minimalistic, but hey it’s Calvin Klein, it’s what they do.

jessica beilkate bosworth

  • Jessica Beil in Atelier Versace.
  • Kate Bosworth in Stella McCartney.  Kate Hudson surprising went with a gothic dress and crimson red lips, but she pulls it off divinely.

marisa tomeiemma roberts

  • Marisa Tomei in vintage Adrian.
  • Emma Roberts in Atelier Versace.  Now the dress works, she just should have chose a different pair of shoes.

emma hemming bruce willisdonna karan

  • Emma Hemming in Donna Karan.
  • Donna Karan in Donna Karan.  Very elegant.

victoria beckhameva longoria

  • Victoria Beckham in Marc Jacobs.
  • Eva Longoria Parker in Diane von Furstenberg.

katy perrykatie lee joel

  • Katy Perry in Tommy Hilfiger.  The singer looked great in the cobalt blue dress that fit her like a glove.
  • Katie Lee Joel in J. Mendel.  The dress was simply darling.
