How-To: At-Home Pedicure

pedicureSpring has sprung and summer is just around the corner.  That means that sandal season is also here.  Are your little piggies ready to be displayed in the latest sandals?  Well, if you don’t feel like spending money on biweekly pedicures, then here are directions on how to give yourself a at-home pedicure.  Don’t worry, it’s very simple, but you’ll get results just like the pros.  And hey, with the money you save from getting professional pedicures, you can buy the latest trendiest sandals to show off your newly acquired skills and your oh so pretty toes.

Remember to treat yourself to a pedicure every two weeks to keep your feet looking great.

Equipment needed:

  • sea or bath salts
  • body scrub
  • pumice stone
  • nail clippers
  • nail file
  • orange stick
  • foot cream or body lotion
  • cuticle oil
  • base coat
  • nail polish
  • top coat

1.  Soak Your Feet

Fill up a foot bath with warm water and add sea salts to it.  The sea salts will soften your dry skin and calluses.  Soak your feet for 10 – 15 minutes.

2.  Remove Dead Skin and Calluses

Massage a body scrub onto your feet, especially to the bottoms and the insides.  Leaving the exfoliating body scrub on, use a pumice stone to scrub away dead skin cells.  Rinse your feet with cool water or soak in cool water bath.

3.  Trim Nails & Clean Up Cuticles

Trim and lightly file your toenails.  Rinse with cool water.  Push back cuticles gently with an orange stick.  Do not cut your cuticles, they are essential in keeping bacteria from entering the skin.

4.  Moisturize & Massage

Using a towel, dry off your feet.  Massage foot cream or body lotion onto the feet and calves.

5.  Top off with Nail Polish

Before applying nail polish, wipe off the lotion from the toenails to help the nail polish adhere better.  Apply a base coat, then two coats of your polish of choice, and finish with a top coat.  After at least half an hour, rub cuticle oil onto your cuticles and the nail beds.
